huacachina - where IWM go to play (and recuperate)

so after we got the hell out of lima as quickly as possible, we hopped a bus to huacachina.

huacachina is a natural desert oasis about 5km west of ica.

ica had a huge earthquake just a couple of months ago, so we werent too sure about coming here but we had heard good things from travellers that we had met along the way.

we got into ica and taxied out straight out to huacachina.
we had been recommended el huacachinero as a place to stay and it doesnt disappoint.
i´ve spent the last few days lazing around the pool working on my tan (and my bruise which dr eric assures me means my leg wont fall off any time soon and my ribs arent cracked).

we booked a desert buggy trip - with sandboarding.

now i have to add here that we have met some young israeli travellers along the way and my god they are arrogant.
still i guess you can be full of yourself and really crap at sandboarding.

after we got back that night, i did a little begging (only a little mind) and we decided to stay an extra day so i could sandboard too.
so last night, nell and i and stuart and charlie from england, went on a vineyard tour and got hammered on 45% pisco and some very very sweet peruvian wine.

then we went desert buggy riding and sandboarding again today.

and got to watch a spectacular sunset.

after sitting around the pool all day.

so ... recommedations for huacachina ....
stay more than a couple of days.
stay at el huacachinero.
eat at farolitos - make sure you take an empty tummy !!
