the Nazca Lines

we took a bus from Ica to Nazca.

funnily enough when we arrived at Ica bus station, Jason and Amy were also there - running a bit late on their trip due to Jason having an attack of Ecuadorian parasitic infection (the girls all missed out on that one).

Nazca is only about 2 hours away - down the Pan-American highway.

in the air, we found out that the highway runs straight through the Nazca lines.

now i´m not the best person to put in an aeroplane but nell and i were separated for the flight and we both got to be co-pilot.
i flew with aeroparacas and anthony our pilot was fabulous.

about 2 minutes after take-off you see the first line which is the whale.
i managed to take just a couple of photos but spent most of the flight holding on tight but staring out the window with my mouth wide open.

oh .. and i have decided to get over my fear of flying (well crashing and dying) by learning to fly myself.

wikipedia info on the Nazca Lines :
The Nazca Lines are a series of geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert, a high arid plateau that stretches 53 miles or more than 80 kilometers between the towns of Nazca and Palpa on the Pampas de Jumana in Peru. They were created by the Nazca culture between 200 BC and AD 700.
There are hundreds of individual figures, ranging in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys and lizards.
The Nazca lines cannot be recognized as coherent figures except from the air. Since it is presumed the Nazca people could never have seen their work from this vantage point, there has been much speculation on the builders' abilities and motivations.
